Vít Jakubský from DTP received the DSc. degree
06. 10. 2023
Ing. Vít Jakubský, Ph.D. from the Department of Theoretical Physics, NPI, received the prestigious degree of Doctor of Science (DSc.) on October 4, 2023. Congratulations!
The ceremony took place in the hall of the Library of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Prague. Ten scientists took their doctoral vows and received their diplomas from Eva Zažímalová, president of the CAS, and Pavel Baran, president of the Scientific Council of the CAS.
From the Nuclear, Subnuclear and Mathematical Physics Commission, more exactly, Vít Jakubský received the degree of "Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences" after he defended - in front of mentioned commision - his dissertation "Analysis of Dirac materials with the methods of mathematical physics", which deals with models of one- and two-dimensional systems described by the Dirac equation. This (e.g.) can describe nanoribbons and other microscopic objects made from graphene and other metamaterials. In his dissertation, V. Jakubský developed new mathematical methods by which the properties of such systems can be effectively analyzed and predicted.
DSc. belongs to the highest scientific degrees in the Czech Republic. Researchers have been obtaining it since 2003 on the basis of a decision of the Scientific Council of the CAS, which is preceded by a demanding procedure. From 2003 to June 2023, 212 of these degrees were awarded.
