The first Day with theoretical nuclear physics
07. 06. 2024

On Tuesday, 4 June 2024, the Department of Theoretical Physics (DTP) of the Nuclear Physics Institute (NPI), CAS, in Řež organised the first ever Day with theoretical nuclear physics for students of the final year of secondary school. In four lectures, 11 students (6 girls and 5 boys) learned the basics of the laws of microcosm and elementary particles, including the particles in the atomic nucleus.
The lecturers tried to present their topics as simply as possible, deliberately avoiding advanced mathematical apparatus not yet familiar to high-school students.
The day with theoretical nuclear physics will definitely be repeated next year at the latest. The interested students can apply during the year by sending an e-mail to Dalibor Skoupil (skoupil@ujf.cas.cz).
During the 1st Day with theoretical nuclear physics, scientists from the DTP of the NPI gave the following lectures:
- The laws of the microcosm from the point of view of quantum theory (Petr Veselý);
- Strange, charm and exotic mesons and their production (Dalibor Skoupil);
- Shape optimization in mathematical physics (Vladimir Lotoreichik);
- The many faces of carbon or from graphite to black holes (Vít Jakubský).
