Roman Garba and Roman Dvořák among the winners of Věda fotogenická

The Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) has published the results of the 9th year of Věda fotogenická (Photogenic Science) photo competition, in which our employees were significantly successful this year. The winner in the Scientists and Adventures category was Ing. Roman Garba, PhD. from the Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy, the prize in online voting for the best video was won by Roman Dvořák from the Department of Radiation Dosimetry. Congratulations!
Ing. Roman Garba, PhD. won an award for his photo named Mad Max in Mauritania, documenting one of the world's most grueling known travel experiences: his crossing the desert on an open freight train carrying iron ore from the Sahara to the coast. Roman Dvořák won the award for the video named Metelesku blesku in a category that was announced this year for the first time.
This year, 244 photos and 12 videos from 28 workplaces of the CAS were sent to the competition, from which the expert jury again selected photos for the representative calendar of the CAS and for the exhibition Věda fotogenická, which is open until the end of 2022 in the Gallery of Science and Art in ground floor of the CAS building on Národní třída street in Prague.
The prizes were presented to the winners at the opening of the exhibition on November 29, 2022 by the President of the CAS Eva Zažímalová, member of the Academic Council of the CAS Markéta Pravdová and vice-chairman of the Science Forum Věda žije! Michael Komm. The winner of the main category "Věda fotogenická" was the photo named Reaction of bromine with aluminum by Jan Havlík from the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS.
