Řež Open Days 2023 were traditionally successful
22. 11. 2023
On Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11, 2023, the traditional Open Days as part of the Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences, organized annually jointly by the NPI, the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry (IIC) of the CAS, the ÚJV Řež and the Research Centre Řež (CVŘ), were successfully held at the Řež research area.
Like in previous years, Friday was reserved for basic and high schools: we were visited, among others, by classes from the well-known Prague high schools Na Vítězné pláni and PORG.
Saturday was then dedicated to the general public. During the roughly four-hour excursion, registered visitors had the opportunity to follow one of two routes: the first included the boron chemistry workplace, the LR-0 reactor and our AMS laboratory with the MILEA accelerator mass spectrometer, the second the radioactive waste disposal process and safety workplace, the LVR-15 reactor and our Laboratory of Tandetron. An amount of 19 groups of visitors showed great interest in our workplaces. During the morning, the excursions were complemented by the movies in the ÚJV cinema hall, where there was also a practical demonstration of historical nuclear research radiation protection devices.
As last year, younger children of our employees, who would otherwise not be able to get to the Řež research area, could visit the NPI facilities with a special exception.
Great success was also achieved by Vladimír Semián from the Laboratory of Tandetron (on the right) for his playful demonstrations of physical experiments
