Lukáš Chlad on the modernization and calibration of the Time-of-Flight detector for HADES
21. 01. 2022
On Thursday, January 20, from 10:00 a.m. in the NPI meeting room, Lukáš Chlad, a member of the Department of Nuclear Spectroscopy (DNS), gave a presentation summarizing the contents of his internship at the GSI/FAIR infrastructure. The internship was supported by the Physicists in the Move II. project (KINEÓ II.).
The TOF detector was built by the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collision Group at DNS for the HADES spectrometer, which is part of the GSI laboratory near Darmstast, Germany. The TOF detector consists of scintillation rods that are read out by fast photomultipliers at both ends. Due to the continuous improvement of the entire HADES spectrometer, in order to speed up data acquisition, it was necessary to replace the reading electronics based on TRB3 boards.
As part of KINEÓ II. mobility project, this electronics upgrade was completed and tested. At the same time, a rough calibration of the data for the test experiment with proton collisions was performed, as well as a detailed calibration of the data for the experiment with silver ion collisions. The lecturer also briefly presented both calibration methods.
Due to the fact that the seminar was held during the coronavirus pandemic, there was also possible to watch it online.
